Who are these guys? What hole did they crawl out of? What possessed them to do this?

Paul In The Beginning Steve

Brothers Paul & Steve Zinn grew up in Concord, CA, in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area. They were multiinstrumentalists. They were fans of "Weird" Al Yankovic. Thus, it was preordained that as teenagers they would begin writing and recording their own song parodies.

At first, their skill and equipment both left something to be desired, and so early songs like "With or Without Chew" (U2's "With or Without You" in a baseball setting) are not good enough to inflict on the public. Have you ever recorded a song by playing two instruments into the built-in mic of your boom box, then playing that back through a stereo behind you while you play two more tracks into the boom box, etc.? OK, then you understand their reluctance.

Every couple of years the brothers would record a new song, or occasionally a polka medley a la Weird Al. MC Hammer and Guns N' Roses will never know how badly they were butchered during this developmental period. But by 1996, Paul and Steve were pretty good with a 4-track cassette recorder.

The Brothers Get Hairy

In 1998, they decided it was time to start sharing their creations with more than just their friends. Having upgraded their recording equipment, they recorded "Nose Ring Time," which pokes fun at the body-piercing trend using Semisonic's "Closing Time." Dubbing themselves My Hairy Brother, they sent a copy of the song to several radio stations, and Doctor Demento played it. This was no longer an occasional hobby.

The World Discovers MHB

In July 2000, the show that had captivated America sparked an idea in the brothers' Hairy heads, and they created "Isle of 'Survivor'," giving new life to Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger." S.F. radio talk show host Ronn Owens adopted the song as the theme to his weekly "Survivor Hour," giving MHB regular exposure to a wide radio audience. Ronn's listeners, combined with links on many Survivor-related websites, spread "Isle" across the Internet faster than a rash on a castaway's leg. It was soon getting airplay nationwide, and the brothers were in demand.

Local TV and radio appearances started happening, and after three more Survivor songs received similarly successful receptions, My Hairy Brother decided that ripe subject had been picked clean. In spring of 2001 they began work on their most ambitious project yet, a full-length album of songs about the Oakland Raiders.

Released in September 2001, Rock Hard, Throw Deep covered all the history, people, and emotions that Raider fans hold dear, and it struck a chord with diehards around the world. Paul and Steve have performed at several Raider game tailgates and fan rallies with a full band, and continue to receive thankful email messages from Raider fans, who have bought hundreds of copies of the CD so far.

My Hairy Brother is still crankin' out hilarious songs played on radio stations across America. If your morning DJ isn't playing MHB, they must not have found this website yet!
